Gain the Red Edge: Interregnum

Gain the Red Edge: Interregnum

Increasing our vocabulary is a great way to #GainTheRedEdge!

Today’s new word:

Interregnum
(in·ter·reg·num)

“a period when normal government is suspended, especially between successive reigns or regimes, an interval or pause.”

Today’s word came to me in this Deseret News article referring to the time period between the death of President Monson and the next first presidency is officially in place. During this interim, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is being led by the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

This interim period, as the article points out, is referred to as “apostolic interregnum.”

Though I was totally unfamiliar with the word, the meaning was clear given the context of usage.

There are many things in life that follow a similar pattern. We may not understand every aspect but they still make sense given the context.

CHALLENGE: Next time you see a word you are unfamiliar with, even if it makes sense in the given context, take a few moments to look up what it actually means.
