Sunday Reflections: Better Than The Best Miracles

Sunday Reflections: Better Than The Best Miracles

The miracles of Jesus transformed people. He healed the crippled and fed the 5,000, calmed the storm and raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead, restored sight to he who was blind and healed a woman of faith.

🎵 🎵 🎵
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
🎵 🎵 🎵

He called others to spread His word and also to perform miracles in His holy name. The Apostles Peter and John healed a man lame since birth. Paul heals a man lame from birth.

🎵 🎵 🎵

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
🎵 🎵 🎵

Jesus saw what others could not see, His vision not limited by mortality, nor dimmed by the struggles of life. He saw life when there was none, saw hope when it was lost, saw light in the darkest of darkness.

🎵 🎵 🎵
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
🎵 🎵 🎵

Others, too, have also been called to perform the miracles that transform and to see with eternal vision. They raise an encouraging voice, extend the gift of love that heals, and shine the light of hope for others who also navigate the storms of life.

🎵 🎵 🎵
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”
🎵 🎵 🎵

My mission president Lionel Kendrick and his beautiful wife Myrtis were such transformational miracles for me. They saw in each of us what we could not see, calling us “Better Than The Best”. Elisa recently enjoyed a wonderful afternoon visit with them. Though it’s been 35 years since I served as a missionary under their tutelage, they still love me as they did then, more so in fact, and they still see me as Better Than The Best.

🎵 🎵 🎵
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
🎵 🎵 🎵

During our visit, President Kendrick asked Elisa to play his favorite hymn on their beautiful grand piano. The soulful notes of “How Great Thou Art” seemed to open the veil of Heaven just enough for the angels to listen in as she who has been my greatest miracle gently brought the melody to life with her forever love.

Have a beautiful Sunday!

We Love You!
