Are Tax Incentives Worth The Price?
Major companies are recognizing the great value Utah brings to businesses. We’ve got a great work force, a great place to live, the most beautiful mountains in the world, and incredible tax incentives, as reported in this Deseret News article.
Tax incentives have their place.
But they also come with a price.
Are the benefits the incentivised company brings to the state, in the form of job creation and above-average wages, enough to make up for the loss in tax revenue because of the incentive?
Are the jobs gained enough to make up for the potential lost jobs at small businesses because of an unfair economic advantage?
Amazon, Adobe, and many other businesses are incredible and each deserves to have the same benefits given to any other business.
Likewise, thousands of small businesses collectively making a stronger economic impact, also deserve to have the same benefits given to any other business.
