Sharpening the Saw to Gain the Red Edge
Sharpening Your Saw is a great way to Gain the Red Edge.
Stephen Covey pioneered the concept of “preserving enhancing the greatest asset you have… you.”
Covey taught we should have a “balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of [our] life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual.”
Today I sharpened my mental saw with training from Utah BNI. I better learned how to grow my business by focusing on helping others grow their business.
Givers Gain is a philosophy based on the Law of Reciprocity. When we give we in turn receive.
Adam Grant teaches in his book Give and Take:
If we create networks with the sole intention of getting something, we won’t succeed. We can’t pursue the benefits of networks; the benefits ensue from investments in meaningful activities and relationships.
Networking is about building relationships of trust. Those don’t happen overnight. And they don’t happened when we focus on ourselves.
The opposite is true.
Focus on serving and helping others. Invest time in getting to know others. Focus on the long-term.
How will you Sharpen Your Saw this week and Gain the Red Edge?
