Monday Morning Boost: “One Day At A Time”
When I deployed to Iraq several years ago, my dad gave me his first year AA coin from Alcoholics Anonymous to carry with me. It’s the coin right in the center of the photo with the Roman Number ( I ) Number One on it.
I remember him saying to me, “Son, if I could make it through and survive my first year of sobriety, you can make it through and survive a year in Iraq.”
When my dad passed away a few years ago, I found many of his AA coins representing nearly forty years of sobriety he had achieved, “One Day At Time.”
The first days, months, and years of sobriety are each an incredible journey that seems insurmountable. Such is the same when we are walking our own journey of change — or perhaps more fitting, crawling and clawing our way through that journey.
At times such as this, “One Day At Time” often becomes our unofficial mantra.
While the journey of change is tough, filled with the muck and mire of struggle, it can also be beautiful as intertwined amidst the thorns roses do grow.
There will be hard days.
There will be easy days.
Stick with your journey of change on each of those days.
Get back up when you fall down.
Rise to the occasions presented.
Create new opportunities to soar.
Be patient with yourself. One Day At Time, as you will continually discover, really does work.
Day After Day.
Month After Month.
And Year After Year.
Every day is a gift.
Live it.
Own it.
Celebrate it!
OUR ONE DAY
by Les Patterson
Yesterday is gone
Tomorrow has yet to arrive
Today is all we have
Our One Day to be alive
Our One Day to be present
A one moment to live in
Let’s own this time we have
This gift we have been given
Sally not back and forth
On this your One Day
Put your efforts to good use
No matter what others say
This is your One Day
Keep up your chin
No matter what may come
Set your sails to the wind
Have a great Monday! Thanks for letting me share!
Les
