What do you do when your baby girl says, “Dad, want to go for a hike?”

What do you do when your baby girl says, “Dad, want to go for a hike?”

And it’s the middle of the work day…

Today, I decided it was time to take a little bit of my own advice and “gain the red edge.” I pushed off a conference call (thanks Josh Barnett) and hit the trail.

We headed up Logan Canyon to Riverside Trail. It’s a short beautiful hike that follows alongside the Logan River.

We shared a bottle of water and shared conversation. We talked about a lot of different things. Some of it mattered and some of it didn’t.

What really mattered is we talked.

At this moment, on this day, going for a walk with Leslie was the most important thing for me to be doing.

That’s what I call “Gaining the Red Edge,”

Gaining the Red Edge is:

  • doing that one thing that’s most important at the moment
  • doing the thing today that will make a big difference in the long-term
  • putting things in place today to help the future

In business, in life, it’s clarifying what matters most. Then doing it.

Go Gain the Red Edge.
