Monday Morning Boost: Do Vision Boards Work?

Monday Morning Boost: Do Vision Boards Work?

Do vision boards work?

I’ve been asked this question a handful of times since sharing last week’s Monday Morning Boost: Creating Vision to Rise.

Some people over the years have suggested vision boards are just a bunch of hogwash. Their explanations may have been much longer and more detailed than just saying “hogwash,” but that was the collective point.

Maybe they are hogwash.

And who am I to say. As I told you last week I  haven’t really used a vision board. But I do set goals.

I set goals. I write them down. I share them with others. I think about my goals. I reflect daily on my goals, sometimes better than others. And… are you ready for this… I have even achieved my goals!

It’s true. I have achieved goals.

Some have been small goals, and some have been pretty darn big. Many goals have been stepping stones on the path to something larger or more significant. Many goals have been focused on improving a behavior or attitude while other goals focused on gaining or achieving something tangible.

I bet you have achieved goals as well. Whether you use a vision board, another system, or simply think about what you want to accomplish in the day, you are achieving goals.

Achieving goals is simply a part of life.

EXPERT ADVICE

Experts have their place helping us learn. That’s why we have teachers. Last week I shared some expert advice from a teacher supporting the principle of telling ourselves a better story.

I’d like to share it again.

“Your brain will work tirelessly to achieve the statements you give your subconscious mind. And when those statements are the affirmations and images of your goals, you are destined to achieve them!”
Jack Canfield

A THIRD WITNESS FOR VISION BOARDS

I have shared some expert advice, and I’ve shared some of my own advice.  There’s much more of both if you want it.

But sometimes we need a third witness. Today, I have one for you.

Sharilee Griffiths is a very thoughtful friend, mentor, and business owner. She is the owner and driving force behind My Discover Destination, a unique program offering free activities for families and marketing opportunities for local businesses.

I think Sharilee believes she can change the world. Seeing what she does, I believe she can!

Sharilee shared this experience of how a vision board helped her achieve a beautiful dream.

“I had a vision board hanging on my bathroom mirror. I love to travel and so I had pictures of several well-known places around the world I wanted to visit, and then I also chose a picture of a pond with a boat on it because it was so calm and relaxing.

“During the summer of 2008 I went on a 5 1/2 week study abroad through Europe. After getting home I was doing my hair one morning and looked over my vision board when I noticed that I had visited all of the places on my vision board.

The strangest thing, however, was that as I looked over the pictures I noticed that the picture of the lake looked identical to a picture I had taken while in the Netherlands. I went back through my pictures to compare the two, and sure enough — the picture I had taken was from the exact same angle with boats in almost the exact same place as the one I had put on my vision board a year or so before that.

“It was really bizarre, but extremely cool!

“I am a believer!”

And though my vision board is not yet done, I’m a believer too.

I leave you with that.

Have a great Monday! Thanks for letting me share.
