Sunday Reflections: Pioneer Children Sang As They Walked

Sunday Reflections: Pioneer Children Sang As They Walked

When pioneer families, including their children, embarked on the treacherous journey across the plains, they walked in the faith of their beliefs and the promise of a better future. Despite the hardships, they chose to embrace unity and hope, turning to the power of song, prayer, and unwavering faith. As they walked, their harmonious voices lifted spirits, fostering a sense of togetherness and determination amidst adversity. They sought solace in prayer, finding strength to endure the trials that lay ahead.

My second great-grandmother Kristine Marie Jensen was one of those pioneer children. She was just 16 years old when she joined a group of strangers, and together they crossed the vast plains in a wagon pulled by oxen.

During their journey, tragedy struck when Kristine suffered a serious accident. Despite her injuries, she found the courage to keep going. With no medical assistance available, she turned to her faith and received a priesthood blessing from the elders, which proved to be a turning point in her life. The blessing assured her that she would reach Utah and become the mother of a large family.

In our own challenging journeys, we can draw powerful lessons from these young pioneers who choose to foster unity, support, and courage. Through song, we can find harmony and inspiration. Through prayer, we can gain inner strength and peace. And through unwavering faith, we can take courageous steps forward, even in uncertain times.

Just as the resilience and faith of these pioneer children paved the way for a brighter future, so can our collective faith and determination lead us forward in the face of adversity. Their legacy serves as a timeless reminder that by embracing these virtues, we can overcome any obstacles that lie in our path.

As you ponder on your own journey of faith, we invite you to enjoy Elisa playing a medley of the songs Pioneer Children Sang As They Walked, Little Pioneer Children, and The Handcart Song.

Have a beautiful Sunday!

We Love You!
