Monday Morning Boost: ‘Tis the Season
The music of Christmas has always helped our family to better feel the spirit of Christmas. From singing fun carols when we put up the tree to the beautiful connections we feel from sacred hymns.
When our children were still around we would generally read a story each night to count down the days to Christmas, along with eating the traditional chocolate from the advent calendar, placing a small ornament on a tree, and helping Santa slowly dropped down the chimney a day at a time.
When it was my first turn to pick a story, I would always pick one of my most favorite, The Nativity Song, easily recognized by the first line, “This is the season beloved of the year.”
This is the season beloved of the year.
Sing a rhyme; Christmastime soon will be here.
Tell the true story of Jesus’ birth,
When, as a baby, he came to the earth.
Of all seasons, this truly is the one season most beloved of the year.
This is the new star, shining so bright,
Lighting the world on that first Christmas night.
This is the angel proclaiming the birth,
Singing “Hosanna!” and “Peace on the earth!”
Just as a new star “shining so bright” guided those who sought the Babe of Bethlehem, we have the Light and Love of Christ to guide us on our quest.
This is the stable, shelter so bare;
Cattle and oxen first welcomed him there.
This is the manger, sweet hay for a bed,
Waiting for Jesus to cradle his head.
Wherever we lay our head, be it shelter bare or a castle grand, we are blessed with the Savior’s love to cradle our worries, nurture our cares, strengthen our hope.
These are the shepherds, humble and mild,
Hast’ning to worship the heavenly child.
These are the wise men who followed the star,
Frankincense, gold, and myrrh brought from afar.
As the shepherds and wise men brought gifts unique to them, we also bring our own gifts unique to us.
See the sweet mother, Mary so fair,
Joseph, who guided the donkey with care.
See the dear baby of Bethlehem,
Little Lord Jesus, the Savior of men.

Have a beautiful Monday. I love you, my friend!
