Monday Morning Boost: The Joy of Creating
Elisa and I had never painted a painting before Saturday night. While I had attempted some drawings in a high school art class (thanks Mr. Sorensen!), and enjoyed watercolor time with kiddos and grandkiddos (most recently with Savannah), I had never actually painted.
I surprised Elisa on Saturday with a paint night at Imagine This, a music and art studio in Logan. We had a fun time trying something new that really stretched our creative abilities.
We had a completed painting to follow of a skier on a slope with pine trees and majestic peaks in the background. Our instructor, Gigi, then painted a replica to illustrate (pun totally intended!) the process we could follow.
It was much easier than I thought it would be. While our paintings lack the touch of an experienced artist, and I painted a variation, I believe even the casual observer can tell what we created (do you agree, can you tell what we created?).
The experience caused me to think more about the impact of the creative process on who we are, how we think, and what we do.
I’ll share some thoughts later on. For now, I would like to know how you see creativity in your life. If you’re willing, please answer the following three questions by replying to this email.
- Do you consider yourself a creative person?
- What makes you feel creative?
- How does being creative make you feel?
Please take a moment and share your thoughts. Someday I’ll figure out how to be creative (how’s that for a creative pun!?!?!?) and create a survey. Till then, be creative and write your answers!
Have a great Monday! I love you, friends!
Les
p.s. Take 13 minutes today to focus on being creative.
