Monday Morning Boost: Intentional Decluttering

Monday Morning Boost: Intentional Decluttering

Stuff can become a little overwhelming at times, especially when we let the stuff build up. Too often, we simply just deal with it, at least until it becomes too much and we have to dive in and tackle it.

This year, I allowed my busyness to overwhelm my systems, and my office became a cluttered mess. Feeling surrounded by clutter created a mental mind block I had to work really hard to not let it become another level of overwhelm.

It’s natural to feel overwhelmed at times. It’s natural for the clutter around you to overtake your mental capacities. It’s also natural to know you can do something about it.

And that’s what I choose to do.

Last week, I dove into the clutter. I threw away stuff, organized my coaching material, and deep-cleaned every inch of my office, including dusting all the hidden parts.

Cleaning and dejunking is a great first step. The next step to “Rethinking Clutter,” as my friend Ashley Stuart teaches, is creating an effective structure for staying organized.

“Structure is a key element to getting and staying organized. Structure creates mental and physical boundaries that keep you accountable to your system… So you don’t explode and it’s easy to tidy up. Structure doesn’t have to be complex, it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, it just has to be something that keeps you in check.”

While I still have some needed next steps to continue my decluttering and organizing, including a set of shelves for the closet and decor on the walls, I feel good about the progress that will help me create the next level of structure.

THE ‘POWER OF THREE’ CONNECTION

Imagine your office as a reflection of your mind–a space that echoes the chaos or serenity within. As a small business owner seeking clarity and empowerment, I found a striking parallel between intentionally decluttering my office and intentionally decluttering my thoughts.

When my office was cluttered, scattered papers, misplaced files, and disorganized shelves mirrored the clutter in my mind. It felt overwhelming, hindering my ability to focus and be productive. The mental fog made decisions feel harder to make, much like trying to navigate through a messy room.

As I began the intentional process of decluttering my physical space, I started to experience the next level of the ripple effect on my mental landscape.

In my quest to declutter my office, I am also focusing on my core “Power of Three” principles to create a more effective structure.

❤️What Matters Most
❤️What I Control & Influence
❤️What I Most Love & Enjoy

This Power of Three approach helps guide my weekly and daily activities which are guided by my overarching focus Vision which will will talk more about next week.
