Sunday Reflections: Fighting The Voices In Your Mind

Sunday Reflections: Fighting The Voices In Your Mind

Who do you turn to when the voices in your mind keep saying you are not enough? How do you find strength when the lies of the world create ugly truths for your reality? Who is your source of hope and light during the darkest of days? “I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up Am I more than just the sum of every high and…

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: HOW ARE YOU A PIONEER OF FAITH?

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: HOW ARE YOU A PIONEER OF FAITH?

Pioneer Day is a holiday celebrated here in Utah to commemorate the arrival of the Mormon Pioneers to what was a desert land in 1847. Those Pioneers made the arduous journey at great sacrifice traveling mostly by wagons and handcarts. We honor their journey of faith and devotion. Their incredible effort to live their faith prompts the question of what it takes to be a pioneer of faith today. As a primary song of our youth teaches… You don’t have to…

Sunday Reflections: Who We Surround Ourselves With Matters

Sunday Reflections: Who We Surround Ourselves With Matters

We spend a significant portion of our adult life surrounded by the people we work with and those we associate with through our professional pursuits. You most likely spend a lot of time with your coworkers, maybe even more time than with your own family and friends. These connections and the environment within which you work will directly impact the way you feel about yourself. From Proverbs we learn, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a…

Sunday Reflections – A Memorial Day Special From The Hyde Park, Utah, Cemetery

Sunday Reflections – A Memorial Day Special From The Hyde Park, Utah, Cemetery

Nestled on the east side of the cemetery in Hyde Park, Utah, lies the little-known grave of Civil War veteran Joseph Cain. According to his headstone, Cain was a private in Company B of the 50th Regiment in the Illinois Infantry. He was born September 30, 1841, and died February 16, 1907. I first learned of Private Cain through Hyde Park neighbor Dorothy Cook Izatt. Cain was a friend of her grandfather when her father was a kid. Click here…

Sunday Reflections: Easter, He Is Risen

Sunday Reflections: Easter, He Is Risen

He who was crucified on the cruel cross of Calvary, whose lifeless body was then laid in a borrowed sepulcher, is also He who rose on the third day. He is risen! He is risen! Tell it out with joyful voice. He has burst his three days’ prison; Let the whole wide earth rejoice. Death is conquered; man is free. Christ has won the victory. Apostles and disciples of old proclaimed Christ had won the victory over the sting of death….

Sunday Reflections: Faith In Every Footstep

Sunday Reflections: Faith In Every Footstep

What does it mean to you to have “Faith In Every Footstep”? For the pioneers crossing the plains, it meant exercising their faith to literally put one foot in front of the other, mile after mile, day after day. They faced horrible conditions, often were separated from loved ones, suffered illness and even death. Our footsteps today may be different, but the faith our journey requires to walk those footsteps is just as important. Especially this past year. Quarantine, sickness,…

Sunday Reflections: Come, Follow Me

Sunday Reflections: Come, Follow Me

A young man knocked on our door this morning with a simple message. This young man along with his senior companion was on an errand of the Lord, helping provide an opportunity for Elisa and me to contribute a monthly “fast offering” to help out the poor and needy in our neighborhood. It was refreshing to see this monthly service relaunch today after being put in quarantine status for most of a year. As his service was concluded, I asked…

How do you see Jesus Christ? What do you feel when you think of Him? While Jesus has many titles and roles, we invite you today to consider His role as the Savior. Precious Savior, dear Redeemer, Thy sweet message now impart. May thy Spirit, pure and fervid, Enter ev’ry timid heart; Carry there the swift conviction, Turning back the sinful tide. Precious Savior, dear Redeemer, May each soul in thee abide. For many years I saw Jesus as the…

Sunday Reflections – Shall We Gather At The River

Sunday Reflections – Shall We Gather At The River

Rivers have often been a place of quiet stillness for Elisa and me. One of our favorite places to go camping is Logan Canyon, right here in our backyard, where we can spend time right next to the Logan River. Shall we gather at the river? Where bright angel feet have trod With its crystal tide forever Flowing by the throne of God “Shall We Gather At The River” is a traditional Christian hymn originally written in 1864 by Robert…
