Monday Morning Boost: The power of extraordinary words

Monday Morning Boost: The power of extraordinary words

Have you ever considered the power of extraordinary words?

Great leaders of all ages and all walks of life have been immortalized by their words, both spoken and written. Such words have moved people to take action that changed the course of history.

Give consideration to the unforgettable words of Martin Luther King, Jr.:

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.'”

JFK urged us to, “Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.”

Gandhi exemplified that which he gently admonished each of us to be: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

Jesus taught, “Love one another.”

Great words, no doubt, spoken by extraordinary people. But what about the power of “extraordinary words” spoken by those who are not so great?

Give consideration, if you will, to the most simple and unassuming words of “please,” “thank you,” and “you’re welcome.”

Parents all over the world constantly utter some of the most extraordinary words ever said:

“Don’t be scared”
“I’m proud of you”
“I love you”

Business mentor Rich Schlentz shares a powerful story of extraordinary words when he was asked by a customer service rep at AAA, “Are you in a safe place?”

With not much effort we can find, even in these simple utterances, the power of extraordinary words that for generations have moved people to take action that changed the course of history… one person at a time.

Have a great Monday. Thanks for letting me share.

  1. Thanks Dave. Powerful story you shared about Debbie Baigrie and Ian Manuel. I was serving in Tampa as an LDS missionary just a few short years before Ian’s tragic decision though I had not heard of it before today. Truly a great mulligan story.
