Monday Morning Boost: Remembering the Kings and Queens of Our Family

Monday Morning Boost: Remembering the Kings and Queens of Our Family

It’s good to have days where we can remember family and friends who have passed away.

Today I am remembering my mother, Carolyn Shirley Christiansen Patterson.

The picture above is my mom and dad holding me when I was just a baby.

Mom would have turned 71 on October 12th. But I’m betting, she would still look like she was 59!

That’s how old Mom was when she passed away. A lifetime of living with Rheumatoid Arthritis took a heavy toll on her health.

But it never took a heavy toll on her spirit.

She was always wonderfully happy even when life was incredibly hard. No matter how bad things were, mom consistently delivered her favorite saying with a smile: “It could always be worse!”

Remembering those we love who have passed away is one way we honor and cherish their memory.

It’s also how we recognize they are part of us.

Previous generations are weaved into the fabric of our life. Physically, their DNA runs through us. Geographically, they’ve brought us to where we grew up. Spiritually and emotionally they’ve given us a foundation of our faith.

They are the great kings and queens of family.

As Mufasa taught Simba, “Look at the stars. The great kings [and queens] of the past look down on us from those stars. So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings [and queens] will always be there to guide you.”

Finding moments to remember family and friends who have passed away helps keep life in perspective. It helps us better realize our role in the grand circle of life.

Such realization will always help us Gain the Red Edge.

Love you mom.

Have a great Monday! Thanks for letting me share.

  1. Les,

I loved your mom! She was such a beautiful lady, inside and out. You would never guess, in a million years, that she might be in pain or suffering in any way. I have very fond memories of her.

Your words brought tears to my eyes. Not sad tears, but tears of gratitude for growing up in a great community with wonderful examples.

You are following in those footsteps!

    1. Thank you Jill for the ‘tears of gratitude’ touching my heart. We grow up in a beautiful place with wonderful people who simply went about doing good, getting up when they fell down, and quietly worked together changing the world.
