Monday Morning Boost: This Is Leadership

Monday Morning Boost: This Is Leadership

A few thoughts on leadership…

LEADERSHIP IS CHOOSING TO START

Leadership is choosing to start where you are at.

Yes, you must recognize your circumstances but do not let them define or limit. Choose to focus on your potential and then act according to your potential, not your limitations.

Leadership is getting back up, rising and rising again, after you are knocked down, trip and fall, or totally screw up.

“Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do.”
– Pope John XXIII

LEADERSHIP IS TRUST

Leadership is building trust. First, trust in ourselves then in those we lead. Self-confidence, self-esteem, self-improvement are all leadership qualities.

And if we lead to build trust, then we must also trust those we lead.

“Earn trust, earn trust, earn trust. Then you can worry about the rest.”
– Seth Godin

“Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle that holds all relationships.”
– Stephen Covey

LEADERSHIP IS AUTOMATIC

Leadership is an eternal truth. Every person is a leader, one way or the other.

For instance, if we have a really bad attitude we are influencing other people negatively. Conversely, if we have a good attitude with a smile on our face and bright and hopeful outlook, we are going to influence those around us positively.

“If you accept the expectations of others, especially negative ones, then you never will change the outcome.”
– Michael Jordan

“A bad attitude is the worst thing that can happen to a group of people. It’s infectious.”
– Roger Allan Raby

LEADERSHIP STARTS WITH WHY

If you want to better lead and influence yourself and others, you must understand your why. Your purpose, your reason, your belief.

  • Why do you do what you do?
  • What is most important to you?
  • What are you hoping to accomplish?

“There are only two ways to influence human behavior: you can manipulate it or you can inspire it.

Very few people or companies can clearly articulate WHY they do WHAT they do. By WHY I mean your purpose, cause or belief – WHY does your company exist? WHY do you get out of bed every morning? And WHY should anyone care?

People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it.

We are drawn to leaders and organizations that are good at communicating what they believe. Their ability to make us feel like we belong, to make us feel special, safe and not alone is part of what gives them the ability to inspire us.”
– Simon Sinek

LEADERSHIP IS TELLING A BETTER STORY

My personal mantra is an eternal leadership truth…

“The Story I Most Consistently Tell Myself Will Be The Story To Most Consistently Come True In My Life. I Will Create A Beautiful, Powerful, Truthful Story.”

LEADERSHIP IS YOU

You are a leader. Everything you do is leading. First yourself, then others.

Now the question is…

What will you do with your leadership???

Have a great Monday! Thanks for letting me share!
