A 4th grader set up a typical lemonade stand, sold a few cups of sugary joy, and saved a life.
That life belonged to Todd Sylvester, a kid failing in college and struggling with addiction so severe he was ready to end his life. But then he found that lemonade stand. And a spontaneous decision to give all the money he had to that little 4th grade girl selling lemonade changed his life.
And then saved it.
Welcome to your unplanned, not according to schedule, oops there goes another mishap, beautifully crazy, full of sadness and joy and who knows what else I’m feeling at the moment, perfectly imperfect life!
No destination. Just a journey.
No agenda. Just an experience.
The race is won each time we get back up when we fall down, screw up, or simply run out of gas.
That’s how Todd won his race three decades ago. That’s how he’s winning his race of life today. And the same is true for each of us.
Life happens. Which is a lot better than that other thing that can happen. Still, either way, it takes us for a ride. Life that is. And it can be a doozy at times.
So we can let it happen. Or, we can do something about it.
Or we can do something about it today. And live. I mean really live. In control, not of life, but in control of our part of life, how we choose to think, choose to act, choose to be.
When life hands you lemons, you can suck on them and cringe with a screwed-up-sour-face lookout on life.
Or you can be like Todd and make lemonade!
- The Lemonade of Sobriety – “Sobriety is Love of Self. You can let go of any habit or addiction by learning to more fully love who you are.”
- The Lemonade of Belief System – “Our thoughts become our beliefs and our beliefs shape who we are. It’s time to let go of negative and false beliefs.”
- The Lemonade of Self-Image – “Who we are is a direct result of our thoughts. We can create the life we want by simply creating a new self-image.”
That’s his gift. When life gives him lemons, he creates so much more than lemonade. Or, as Todd says, “It’s time to start living” (which is also the title of one of his books). Todd was recently featured on a KSL special segment of Beyond The Game.
I bet that’s what you also do… make lemonade!
Have a great Monday! Thanks for letting me share!
p.s. Take 13 minutes today to choose to make more than just lemonade!
