Monday Morning Boost: Are You Still Great?
One year ago this week I asked a group of incredible people what they felt made them great. Today, I am following up to see how they feel about their greatness now. As I specifically invite each of them to evaluate how they feel today and share their response, I extend the same invitation to you.
I have been greatly empowered on my journey of creating my story of greatness by those who share their journey. I hope in a small way sharing my story empowers you.
Now, let’s hear from these leaders of greatness. I will let their words speak for themselves.
LIZ BUTCHER
“I think my superpower lies in the words, “I won’t give up!” That song or phrase runs through my mind all the time. When I am seeing success or failure. I will NEVER give up. We all have moments in life and business that we doubt ourselves and this is natural even heartbreaking. But why give up on our dreams? Keep trying, keep driving, keep creating. Success comes from every aspect of the journey we take. Just get up and keep going. Don’t give up. The happiness from the success far outweighs failures.”
BEN GOCHBERG
“I truly believe, not just desire, but actually believe that I have the ability to add value in every human relationship, no matter how short or non-impactful the situation might seem to be to society as a whole. And I do this not in the sense of conscious choice because a book once told me so (nearly every business book I’ve ever read says the same things, and yes it’s important we keep repeating them). I don’t do this because I think it is morally right or beneficial to self, although it certainly is. It is the result of so many repeated interactions, decisions, and habits that it has become my nature, my programming, to create and expand with others. I can’t help but build with other people.”
ANDREW DAINES
“As cool as it is in this world to tout intelligence quotient, my emotional quotient for me in the business I am in is even more important. My emotional quotient is like the Rock of Gibraltar. Especially where I’m not and haven’t been the sharpest tool in the shed, my intelligence quotient is capped but my emotional quotient has unlimited potential for growth.”
BRENT JENSEN
“I choose to see the good in people. Not overlooking or ignoring the bad… but recognizing people as Devine children of God. Choosing to see potential in people.”
MICHAELA BODILY
“One thing that I believe makes me great is my determination. If I have a goal, I do everything in my power to make it happen – even under the negative voices of those around me.”
STEVEN AMOTT
“One thing that makes me great is my ability to connect with and lift others. This has always been a talent of mine but over the years, like any talent, I have developed and honed it to be even more effective. That is, taken it to a more personal level.”
CHERYL KNOWLTON
“The fact that I Am a Child of God. As the daughter of THE KING, knowing whose I am and who I am changes everything!”
CAMERON NICHOLS
“One thing that makes me great is my empathic abilities. It helps me really connect with others and myself; see past mental and emotional walls; ask good questions; and see the potential in myself and others.”
SHERRIE PATTERSON ERIVEZ
“My Heavenly Father makes me great. Finding my spiritual side, not my religious side, and building a relationship with Heavenly Father and being spiritual on a daily basis has made me greater than I have ever been.”
AMY PRICE HOLLY
“I asked my husband to answer this for me…he said he makes me great!!! It’s true, however, he also added that it’s my willingness to serve!”
ANGELIQUE ADAMS FLANDERS
“One thing great about me? I’ll quote my mother’s words in her journal. — Angelique is a warrior for what and whomever she believes in. — Most often, the underdogs of the world.”
AMY CARTER
“Hmm, something that makes me great is my ability to see missing pieces in a problem – finding simple solutions and reframing situations to understand the whole picture, and find a way to make it better.”
ANONYMOUS
“My wife makes me great! And I have a great work ethic and am self-motivated… being my own boss lets me control my own schedule, so I have to have the self-discipline to make sure the work is getting done. I think this helps make me great.”
RAULON VAN TASSELL
“One thing that makes me great is my ability for self-discipline. I just have to get to the point of “buying in” and once I am there I can stick to a system, plan, or behavior. That is mixed with a love for people. Though disciplined I am willing to prioritize the humanity portion of life that brings me back to a point where I can realize that others may not be as disciplined and it urges me to exercise grace and patience with people where they are on their own path.”
ZACHARY GEE
“I am great at being dependable when I am committed to a goal. I think a great example of this was in high school my football teammates voted me to receive the “Lion Heart Award”. This award was given to the person that the team voted was the hardest worker.”
ANNA TRAPPETT
“That’s an interesting question, and to be honest, no one has asked me this. Here goes….the one thing that has made me great and continues to make me great is that I try to make a difference in other people’s lives. As a hospice nurse, I have provided over the years, support and love to those facing terminal illnesses. A lot of people were facing the dark tunnel of uncertainty, and I did what I could to help the patients and their families to focus on the light.”
I leave with my favorite. The greatness she sees in herself is reflected in my intentional and consistent quest to create my own story of greatness.
ELISA PATTERSON
“I am great because I have strong faith and I am relentlessly optimistic. I am able to see greatness in those around me particularly in my family: those I love so much. I am able to love them for who they are and to encourage them and to cheer them on to the greatness that I see in them. This gives me a strong sense of vision and a desire to find ways to grow while loving and embracing the stage of life I am in. I love the beauty of people and the simple wonders of life!”
