Monday Morning Boost: Honoring Giant Dads

Monday Morning Boost: Honoring Giant Dads

Can a broken dad still be a great dad?

This is a valid question, and one without an easy answer.

Here’s my simple answer…

  • You are a great dad even if part of you is broken.
  • You are a great dad even if you’re not a great dad every day.
  • You are a great dad even if you make mistakes and fall down.

The greatness comes with the mending and the fixing, with trying to better tomorrow, with getting back up, every time, no matter what.

I honor you dads in your brokenness and in your wholeness. I celebrate when you soar like an eagle and when you only dream of soaring. I raise my voice of hope when that you will create light out of the darkness that surrounds you.

Remember, as someone wiser than me once said, “Nothing is really broken until your dad can’t fix it.”

EMBRACE YOUR GIANT GREATNESS!

It takes a lot of greatness to be a giant dad. And a lot of confidence, a lot of strength and courage, and a lot of humility. Being a dad is not an easy journey. In honor of each who walks the path of being a dad, in any capacity, I honor the Giant of a dad you are and the Giant of a day you are becoming.

GIANT DADS
By Les Patterson

A Giant dad
Is sometimes a Small
Makes mistakes
Takes a fall

A Giant dad
Is sometimes broken
Screws things up
Causes commotion

A Giant dad
Sometimes still has to learn
Figure out what to do
Know when to turn

A Giant dad
Sometimes loses hope
Gives into despair
Struggles to cope

A Giant dad
Will always be great
Because he’s on the journey
A Giant dad to create

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: HONORING BROKEN FATHERS

Elisa and I shared more thoughts on this journey of broken fathers yesterday for our Sunday Reflections. We shot our video message at Willow Flats Campground up Cub River Canyon, on the northern fringe of Cache Valley just across the border into Idaho. Unfortunately, the video cut off the last 2-3 minutes of our message. What’s there is a great message!

WE HONOR YOU

We honor the fathers who figured in your life. We honor the dads who did their best for you. We honor those of you who are dads, in any capacity, for doing the best you can today.

We honor you for rising to the calling of fatherhood. It’s a sacred and noble opportunity, obligation, and right. Honor the title. Rise even more in courageous confidence. Create your story of love and greatness!

Have a beautiful Monday! Thanks for letting me share!

Les

p.s. Take 13 minutes today to honor the fathers in your life, including yourself! I invite you to share as well if you feel today’s message will touch a heart.
