5 Tips For A Successful Expo Experience To Gain The Red Edge

5 Tips For A Successful Expo Experience To Gain The Red Edge

Trade shows, expos, home and garden shows, county fairs, community events,  networking, and similar events can be a great way to advertise your products or services if you do them right. I have enjoyed working with and helping promote different events over the years. Here in northern Utah, I helped create and then manage for several years the Cache Valley Home & Garden Show and helped expand and grow the Logan Gift Show. Here are five key principles I’ve learned that…

Monday Morning Boost: Journey ‘Round The Bend

Monday Morning Boost: Journey ‘Round The Bend

Does one write poetry  As in an assemblage of words Or is it a process of creation More akin to guiding a sheep herd? Robert Frost suggests, “Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.” Emotion, finding thought, finding words was the case of this little gem, inspired by one who out of her pain gave strength to others. From our pain We give strength to others Lessening our burden By relieving theirs. Poetry does not…

Monday Morning Boost: The Borgstrom Brothers

Monday Morning Boost: The Borgstrom Brothers

Alben and Gunda Borgstrom sent five of their six sons to war. Only one came home alive. The Borgstrom brothers were unknown to me before yesterday. And so was their story. LeRoy, Clyde, Rolon, and Rolun Borgstrom were four brothers who were killed during World War II. They were from Garland, Utah, the next valley over from Cache Valley where we live in northern Utah. I was introduced to their story Sunday while listening to Music and the Spoken Word. Ironically, I was writing…

What Courage Means to Me

What Courage Means to Me

Memorial Day is our time as a nation to remember those who have gone before. Specifically, it’s our time to remember those who have given their lives in service to our country. Cemeteries come to life with scented flowers and fluttering flags. Families gather to remember. History is shared. Connections are remembered. I wrote this little poem a couple years ago as we placed flowers on family graves in the Logan City Cemetery – Flowers remember a moment in time…

Monday Morning Boost: Are You An Impostor?

Monday Morning Boost: Are You An Impostor?

Every Monday afternoon I meet with my Red Edge business team. Last week’s meeting went really well. I shared my big vision, we explored ideas and discussed our progress. But later on that evening my mind went to work against me. You’re no good. You can’t do this. You are an impostor. Yep. I am a fraud. A fake. I’m not good at what I say I’m good at. Not really. But at times I feel like I am. When these…

Red Edge Perspective: God, Country, Family

Red Edge Perspective: God, Country, Family

God, country, and family are the core principles I strive to value the most. I’m grateful for the blessings that bring them all together. This is a picture of the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah, in the valley where I live. It’s identical in purpose to the temple around the world wherein sacred covenants are made with God. The temple is also the place where families may be sealed together for time and all eternity not just ’till death. This…

Monday Morning Boost: Perfectly Imperfect Moms

Monday Morning Boost: Perfectly Imperfect Moms

The best moms are perfectly imperfect. And yes, I’m talking about you. Not your mother. Not the other mom around the corner who always has her kids out the door on time for everything. Not the mom you see on Pinterest who is totally awesome all the time. I’m talking to you. Hi there. Being a mom is a journey. Moms stumble and they get back up. Moms try one technique, then another, give up, then try again. Moms love…

Focus on the Core to Gain the Red Edge

Focus on the Core to Gain the Red Edge

Focusing on the core of your physical body improves and strengthens your entire body. That’s what my friend Chari Hawkins is teaching today. Chari is a world-class heptathlete, former USU Aggie, and currently a grad student at the University of Bath in England. For the next two weeks, Chari is putting “extra focus” on core work. “It’s amazing,” she writes, “what the little things do and how it helps.” Check out Chari making the tough look easy. Crank the volume and…

Red Edge Perspective: Community Law Enforcement

Red Edge Perspective: Community Law Enforcement

What a great community we live in! North Logan and Hyde Park are striving to understand the best way to provide law enforcement to our communities. It’s a contested issue with strong opinions. I don’t know the best answer. Nor at this point do I have an opinion. I’ve listened to passionate voices on each side. Some are well informed. Others are simply regurgitating information, be it accurate or inaccurate. Look at this crowd tonight at the community meeting. AWESOME!…

Monday Morning Boost: How Dare I…

Monday Morning Boost: How Dare I…

Her words repeatedly chug through my soul like a freight train steadily plugging up a mountain pass. “How dare I…” A beautiful story of vision and effort seemed to take on a poetic pattern of repetition continually etching her words of counsel deep into my thinking. “How dare I be anything…” It wasn’t luck that brought her to this point, she emphasized to the graduates, but the vision of her mother whose shoulders she rode upon. “How dare I be…
